Mumbai, “the city of dreams” in India is not only the financial capital of the country but popular for housing a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I travelled to this urban and modern city for a two day trip and did so much that you’ll truly be shocked. Also stayed at a beautiful boutique property (you are not ready for this!). So without dragging this introduction any further, lets get into the perfect two day Mumbai itinerary 🙂 📌Places to see! ❤Gateway of India The Gateway of India is an iconic structure built in the early 20th century. It was erected to commemorate the landing of King-Emperor George V, the first British monarch to visit India, in December 1911 at Strand Road near Wellington Fountain. Since 2003, the Gateway has been the location for the local Jewish community to light the menorah for Hanukkah celebrations every year. The best time to visit the Gateway is before 9 am. The place glows up in the morning light and is hardly crowded. You can sit here enjoying the pigeons or look at the wide open sea! ❤The Taj Mahal Hotel Right next to the Gateway of India is the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel. The Taj Mahal is a heritage, five star, luxury hotel in the South Bombay region. The hotel is named after the Taj Mahal. The exteriors of the hotel are absolutely stunning and the interiors are equally beautiful. Though booking a room here can be a pricey affair, you should definitely visit this place to take in the beauty and experience its grandeur! ❤Marine Drive My personal favorite in Mumbai has to be the Marine Drive! I can literally sit here for hours and just enjoy the ocean, walk around the promenade and feel truly free! No amount of words can express the feeling you get while sitting here. During the day you will find people working out. tourists clicking pictures and people like me sitting and adoring the ocean. At night, this place becomes lively with local bands playing and families having a good time after a long day! *Pro tip: Getting around South Bombay is a costly affair as auto’s don’t ply in this region. So book a local taxi to get around easily and don’t forget to bargain! ❤Hanging Gardens The Hanging Gardens also known as the Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens are terraced gardens located on the top of the Malabar Hills. The park is free to enter and you can easily explore it on foot. The gardens are adorned with fountains, pavilions, an iconic boot house and much more. You get a beautiful view of the Arabian sea and can easily spend hours in the lap of nature! ❤Siddhivinayak Temple The most popular temple in the whole of Mumbai, thousands of worshippers come here everyday to chant “Ganpati Bappa Moraya“. My pro tip will be to reach as early as possible in the morning to avoid the crazy crowds. There are two to three shoe counters where you can keep your shoes for free. You will be approached by people who’ll sell Puja Thalis and tell you there is a shorter line if you buy one, please do not fall into that scam! ❤Bandra Bandstand The Bandra Bandstand is where all the stars are (quite literally!) The Bandstand Promenade, also known as Bandra Bandstand is a 1.2 kilometer long walkway along the sea in the neighborhood of Bandra. It is a popular hangout spot, a jogging track and a park. You will find the houses of Big Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan!, Rekha and more. Personally I love this place as I find it great to listen to the ocean waves. ❤CST Terminal - A UNESCO Heritage The Chhatrapati Maharaja Shivagi Terminus is a historic railway terminus and UNESCO World Heritage Site in India. it is the busiest railway station in India! The façade of the building is inspired by the High Victorian Gothic Style of architecture. The building exhibits a fusion of influences from Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture and classical Indian architecture. The skyline, turrets, pointed arches, and eccentric ground plan are close to classical Indian palace architecture. It is the most beautiful railway station I have ever seen. Best time to visit is during the evening. The entire façade lights up beautifully and becomes a perfect photo spot. ❤Bandra Worli Sea Link Now this isn’t a place to see per-se. But the experience to drive through the sea link is extraordinary! This sea link has cut down the time to travel from the Airport to South Bombay by almost 45 mins. There is a charge of INR 80 (for four wheeler vehicles) that one has to bear every time you take the sea link. But literally it is worth an experience. ❤Explore Ikea Again, the next place on this list isn’t historic or a tourist spot but definitely a fun place to be. If you don’t know already, Ikea is a Swedish brand offering home furnishing solutions and lot more. You can practically find everything home related here and the experience of walking around the store is exciting. The one in Navi Mumbai is the largest store but I explored the Worli one and loved it. From home décor to DIY furniture, Ikea has it all. Make sure you have some space in your luggage because I guarantee you will not leave the store empty handed. (Watch my vlog to know what all I bought!!). Time needed – 2 to 3 hours 📌Best place to stay!!! Let me introduce you to the best place to stay in Mumbai. The city has some beautiful hotels and luxe places to stay. As I was travelling solo, I decided to splurge a little and stay at a boutique hotel – The Gordon House hotel. Needless to say, I enjoyed my stay here. From the outside this looks like just another old building, but the interiors of the hotel are beautiful with European vibes. I booked a standard room which costed roughly INR 7000 with breakfast. But to my surprise I got upgraded to a suite! Well just scroll through the pictures to see the grandeur of the property! 📌How to commute within Mumbai? From Taxis, Autos, Buses, Metro to “Local Train”, Mumbai has a bunch of options to commute. But remember, autos don’t ply in South Bombay, so taxis are the best way to commute. Don’t forget to bargain with them. If want to commute like a local and observe the daily life of Mumbaikers closely, then the Local Train experience is a must!
