Hue Citadel - Discover the history of The Nguyen Dynasty

Hue Citadel Hue Citadel Located on the bank of the Perfume River, Hue Citadel is one of the monuments belonging to the Complex of Hue Monuments Complex recognized as a World Cultural Heritage and still retain many unique imprints of feudal features of the Nguyen Dynasty hundreds of years ago. Hue Citadel is a complex of monuments including the Imperial Citadel (where the king set up the dynasty and worked) and the Forbidden Purple City (the residence of the king and the royal family).


Hue Citadel is the most monumental structure in Vietnamese history with a construction process lasting up to 30 years with tens of thousands of people performing a series of jobs such as river filling, ditching, embankment, tomb removal... with a huge mass of rock and earth up to millions of cubic meters.
Visiting the complex of Hue Citadel, you will admire hundreds of magnificent palaces, temples and shrines. With magnificent beauty and excellent palace architecture, you will surely enjoy the journey to visit Hue Citadel.

Imperial City
Imperial City includes many areas such as defensive area, celebration area, temple area,... set amidst a harmonious natural space of lakes, gardens, stone bridges, islands and lush greenery. Imperial City has 4 gates located on 4 sides, of which the largest main gate with the most beautiful architecture is Ngo Mon Gate.

Ngo Mon Gate has 5 gates, of which the middle gate used to be the gate for the king to go, the two gates for the mandarin and martial arts, and the two surrounding gates are for soldiers and elephants.

Ngo Mon Gate - The main gate of Hue Citadel Above the gate is the Five Phoenix Pavilion with ironwood structure, divided into 2 floors and 9 sets of roofs, the middle roof is yellow, the rest are 8 green roofs. In the past, Five Phoenix Pavilion was the venue for many major ceremonies of the Nguyen Dynasty. Over nearly 2 centuries and witnessing many milestones of important historical events of the nation, Ngo Mon Gate still stands the test of time and has become an outstanding ancient architectural masterpiece! Thai Hoa Palace Thai Hoa Palace - Thai Hoa Palace is a symbol of the power of the Nguyen Dynasty . Located inside the Imperial Citadel, Thai Hoa Palace and Dai Trieu Nghi courtyard used to be an important venue for court sessions.

Thai Hoa Palace and Dai Trieu Nghi Courtyard Dien Tho Palace Among many palaces in Hue Imperial Citadel, Dien Tho Palace is the largest palace architecture system in Hue remaining to this day. This is used to be the residence of the Queen Dowagers.
