Best chole bhature in Delhi, as picked by the city’s top foodies
Looking for the best chole bhature in Delhi? Making your way through a pile of piping hot golden bhaturas, with a thin crisp layer topping a bed of pillowy comfort, paired with spicy, tangy chole, is a thing of wonder that Delhiites know all too well. Whether you like yours with a homestyle lightness or with extra masala, with onion, potato, or paneer, thick or runny, there’s a place for every kind of chole bhature in Delhi.
So if you’re in the capital, you’re in luck, because comfort food here is spelt chole bhature, and there are a thousand places to get your fix. But what’s the best one? We got the capital’s top food experts to recommend their favourites.
👉Best chole bhature in Delhi
✨Sitaram Diwan Chand, Paharganj
Giani Di Hatti (M65F+67Q, Bagh Deewar, Fatehpuri, Chandni Chowk) near Fatehpuri is quite famous. They add boiled masala potatoes to the chole, which gives the dish a subtle flavour. They also add tea water to give it a colour. For bhature stuffed with paneer, there’s a place in Paharganj called Sitaram Diwan Chand (2243, Rajguru Marg, Chuna Mandi, Paharganj). Then there’s Om Chole Bhature (612, Rani Bagh Rd, Rishi Nagar, Pitam Pura) in Karol Bagh, which is famous in West Delhi. One is in Daryaganj, which serves Lotan Chole Kulche Wala (Govind Ki Gali, near Commercial St Sec School, Daryaganj). The person making the food adds a spicy, watery chutney on top of the chole, which are dry. It's super spicy and the red chilli makes it red in colour. He serves kulche with it. People even drink the spicy chutney separately, as we Delhiwallas have a taste for masala! Anas Khan, Founder, Unzip Delhi
✨Kwality Restaurant, Connaught Place
A plate of piping hot chole bhature hits the spot everytime. Kwality Restaurant (No7, Regal Building, Sansad Marg, Hanuman Road Area) in Connaught Place in Delhi continues to be a firm favourite for enjoying this hearty meal. What I love are their giant cloud-like bhature, which are deliciously soft and pillowy and the perfect accompaniment to mop up the spicy and rich cholas. Kwality's the perfect family restaurant that has been serving classic Indian fare for generations without diluting taste or quality. It's the perfect Sunday lunch spot where families with varying tastes and demands can enjoy a meal and be assured that they will go home satisfied. They serve both vegetarian and non vegetarian food.To get a taste of Delhi's famous street food, head to Sadar Bazaar where Nand Bhature Wale Di Hatti (829 Pan Mandi, Sadar Bazaar) serves a perfectly delicious plate of chole bhature with a mustard and green chilli pickle to uplift the meal. This trip is not for the faint-hearted, because you have to brave the traffic and chaotic markets of Sadar Bazaar to reach this famous hole in the wall eatery. However, if you do decide to head here, you will not be disappointed with their special recipe of cholas served with freshly made bhaturas. One of their USPs is that everything is cooked in pure desi ghee. But do note that it’s available only till 5pm in the evening. Neha Prasada, Food Writer & Author
“I started my banking career in Connaught Place, as an intern at ABN Amro. At lunch break, everyone would hit the pantry with their tiffins, and I would hit the streets with an appetite to try everything I could. Bang opposite my office was Kwality Restaurant (7, Regal Building, Sansad Marg), and of course I remember my grandfather taking me there when I was young. As soon as I saw the gigantic ball bhature) and chole fly past me to another table, I knew I had to have it. It was fantastic, perfectly balanced, and not heavy on masala like many of its competitors. And it still is.” Siddharth Mathur, Director, Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality, Founder-Director, Khoya Mithai
✨Baba Nagpal Corner, Lajpat Nagar
“What started off as a chole bhature cycle-cart in 1970 has now become a restaurant with outposts. But the original Sita Ram Diwan Chand (2243, Rajguru Marg, Paharganj) is practically a gold standard for the dish in Delhi. But since food is so much about nostalgia and memories, a favourite remains Baba Nagpal Corner (7/25, Old Double Storey, Gupta Market, Lajpat Nagar IV). It’s a tradition to have chole bhature as breakfast with the family over the weekend.” Radhika Khandelwal, Chef-owner, Ivy & Bean, Fig & Maple
A detail of bhature at Sitaram chole bhature wala, Delhi. The shop, originally a hand cart was started by the present owners grandfather, Diwan Chand who arrived penniless from Pakistan. The shop is reckoned to serve the finest chole bhature in Delhi. The bhature are fluffy but it's the perfectly balanced chole and lip smacking pickles that keep me going back for more. You can also buy the chola masala to make some at home.” Jamsheed Bhote, Chef and Co-owner, Plats, Chard ✨ Bhogal Chole Bhature Wala, Janpath “I was shooting for a YouTube channel and we were exploring street food and that is when I discovered Bhogal Chole Bhature Wala (Scindia House, behind Anand Restaurant, Janpath). I love places, especially food joints that are non-pretentious, and this one reeks of simplicity and really solid homestyle food. Instead of black chole, they serve up the regular yellow-coloured one, which is what you’d usually have at home. And the pickle that they serve tastes like what your grandmother would make.” Sadaf Hussain, chef, ex-MasterChef contestant, cookbook author ✨Gole Hatti, Chandni Chowk “I spent a good part of my childhood at my maternal grandmother’s house and if it happened to be a Sunday, it invariably meant eating chole bhature from Chhoti Hatti (37, Balraj Khanna Marg, West Patel Nagar market). They were every bit the fluffy-spicy-tangy combination they are supposed to be and I took to loving chole bhature like a true-blue Punjabi. What made their dish a cut above the rest was the mildly sweet, slightly tangy chutney that came with it. Gole Hatti (2-4, Church Mission Road, Fatehpuri, Chandni Chowk) is another favourite. The bhature are not intimidating in size and the chole are always soft and perfectly balanced. I love the enthusiasm of the servers and the visible pride they take in working with the best in business. I often make a trek to Chandni Chowk to buy vinyl records and I always make it a point to go to Gole Hatti.” Vikas Narula, Founder and Co-owner, Depot 48, Godaam Cre: cntraveller
