The Kolkata metro, the first ever metro in India, achieved another historic first - by becoming the first ever metro in India to ply underwater. The metro took its maiden route on a 520 metre tunnel 13 metres under the Hooghly River, connecting Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V.
